    Air Force Staff Sgt. Rodrigo Acosta, a security forces specialist with the Arizona Air National Guard's 162nd Wing, said he felt fortunate to belong to an Arizona-based unit when he deployed to Kuwait last summer. While others suffered through adjusting to Kuwait's triple-digit temperatures, for Acosta and others from his unit the temps weren't too different from home.

    Arizona Air National Guard's first European deployment in 31 years

    Airmen from the 162nd Wing, Arizona Air National Guard, have wrapped up Exercise Ample Strike 2018 at Namest Air Base, Czech Republic, after a 31-year hiatus since their last deployment overseas.

    Last year, the 162nd SFS earned the 2017 Air National Guard’s Outstanding Security Forces Award, and today, squadron leaders are in Norman, Oklahoma, to accept the 2017 United States Air Force Outstanding Security Forces Unit “Air Reserve Component” Award at the Air National Guard Security Forces Conference.

    Ample Strike is an annual Czech Republic-led, live exercise intended to increase proficiency levels for all forward air controllers and joint terminal attack controllers (JTACs), as well as to improve standardization and interoperability among NATO allies and partners.

    Truax Field fulfills another chapter in Arizona Airman’s life

    Truax Field has a great deal of military history; from being an Active Army Air Base in 1942, to being Truax Air Force Base from 1952 to 1967 and now being a part of the Wisconsin Air National Guard, there is a lot of monumental military culture to be found here.
