A crew chief ensures an F-16 pilot from the Aerospace Control Alert Detachment from the 162nd Wing is prepared for take-off Sept. 12, 2015, at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. It is the responsibility of a crew chief from the Aerospace Control Alert Detachment to perform the final checks before a pilot takes flight. The detachment maintains the ability to quickly scramble in response to airborne threats in the Southwest United States, as well as proactively defend large gatherings and high profile events.
