Nothing escapes a pilot’s eye. In preparation for a training sortie, Norwegian pilot Maj. In addition to being an exchange officer here at the wing, Brettingen is also the commander for the Norwegian attachment. Pilots don’t choose the time of day they are put in harm’s way. Thus, Maj. Erik Brettingen, a Norwegian exchange officer at the 162nd Wing, familiarizes himself with Night Vision Goggles (NVG). Brettingen, who also serves as a flight commander for Norwegian student-pilots at the F-16 Schoolhouse, said that although NVGs do “not turn night into day,” the pilot is able to detect threats and targets and stay in formation in an operational environment during the night.
