Wing services flight heads to Al Dhafra

Staff Sgt. Santos Flores bids farewell to his wife Yvette and his son Andres at Tucson International Airport on his way to Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, June 8. He left with nine fellow Guardsmen from the 162nd Fighter Wing’s force support squadron to provide food, fitness, lodging and recreation services to U.S. military members deployed to the area. First member to enlist in Tucson's fighter unit

Master Sgt. (Ret.) John Smith, the first person to enlist in the Arizona Air National Guard in Tucson, reutrns to the maintenance backshops where he once worked as a structural repairman, May 13. Smith served at the 162nd Fighter Wing, first known as the 152nd Tactical Fighter Squadron, from the unit's first year in 1956 through his retirement in 1984. MAFFS over Tucson

Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve units converged on Tucson, Ariz., in May to take part in MAFFS certification and training 2009. The Modular Airborne Firefighting System is an important and effective tool used to fight wildfires nationwide and is placed onboard the C-130 Hercules aircraft. Alert Detachment: "MISSION READY!"

A 162nd Fighter Wing F-16 at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base sits ready for alert in support of Operation Noble Eagle. During a no-notice NORAD Alert Force Evaluation April 14, the wing's Alert Detachment earned the highest possible marks. Based on a new three-tier rating system, the alert force was rated overall "Mission Ready" with zero findings. Of particular note was the outstanding effort and performance of maintenance at the det which the IG team lead stated, "is the best F-16 maintenance in NORAD." "The pressure of performing superior actions or procedures on a no-notice inspection, for a can-not-fail mission is just outstanding!" said Col. Greg Stroud, 162nd Fighter Wing commander.
