Smith 162nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs TUCSON, Ariz -- The largest Air National Guard fighter wing in the United States welcomed its new vice commander on June 1st. In a military career filled with such titles as weapons officer and project/test manager, Lt. Col. Kenneth R. Rosson can now list vice commander as his new position at the 162nd Fighter Wing. "I appreciate the support and vote of confidence and I am truly humbled by the opportunity to serve the wing," he said. Arriving at Tucson International Airport in 2000 and first serving in scheduling operations for the 152nd Fighter Squadron here, Rosson said he looks "forward to continue building upon the already solid foundation at the wing." Rosson added that although serving as a vice commander will be broader in scope than his previous assignment as a deputy operations group commander, zeroing in on "mission execution" will remain unchanged. According to the Texas native, however, his ultimate focus still surrounds the Air Guard's most prized possession: its people. "This is an especially difficult time as we face furloughs and manpower reductions," he said. "But we have a very capable team and I know we will continue to be successful as a wing because of our Airmen." Rosson has participated in Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, and was instrumental in Air Sovereignty Alert stand-up following the terrorists attacks of 9/11.
