The 162nd Wing Chief's Council awarded two unit members academic scholarships in the amount of $500 at a ceremony here January 5.

Airman 1st Class Israel Romero, squadron aviation resource manager and Airman 1st Class Jacqueline Ochoa, International Military Student Office representative were selected for their continued professional development through civilian education.

The Chief's Council scholarship application is open from October through December each year and all Airmen from the 162nd Wing are eligible to apply.

"This year's recipients were two outstanding young Airmen from the Operations Group," said Chief Master Sgt. Brian Karas, Operations Group superintendent. "Both are pursuing their college education which will pay dividends for not only them, but the 162nd Wing," said Karas.

"Education has always been one of my priorities before and after entering the military," said Ochoa. She is currently a student at Pima Community College and will apply the money to tuition and books for the upcoming year.

Romero said receiving the scholarship means a lot to him and will support his future endeavors at Pima Community College. He too will use his scholarship to help offset tuition.
