Making military members smile Published Aug. 31, 2015 By 2nd Lt. Lacey Roberts 162nd Wing Public Affairs TUCSON, Ariz. -- A local dentist provided complimentary dental services to three members of the 162nd Wing on August 22, 2015. Dr. Jeffrey Roberts from Tucson Spectrum Dentistry belongs to a group of dental offices that offer free services one day a year. This year Roberts elected to give this opportunity to service members at the 162nd. After contacting Barb Gavre from the Family Readiness Office, his Saturday morning schedule filled with dental exams, cleanings, fillings, crowns and a root canal. Two service members and a spouse received dental care. Each said they were grateful for the outstanding customer service, professionalism and of course the opportunity to take care of their dental needs at no cost. "I had an excellent visit," said Egress Technician, Staff Sgt. Santiago Ortiz. "The dentist was very personable and amazing at his line of work." Ortiz scheduled himself for a crown, but after viewing his x-rays Roberts determined he needed a root canal. Although not intended as a free of charge procedure, Roberts performed the root canal and deep cleaning to ensure Ortiz's dental health. "They went above and beyond to help me," said Ortiz. The services Roberts and his staff provided equate to a total dollar amount of $5,145. Roberts said, he and his staff enjoyed providing the services as a way to thank those who serve our country. To thank Roberts for his generosity, Gavre presented him and his staff with a 162nd Family Readiness Support Award on August 27, 2015. Gavre and Roberts look forward to partnering again in the future.
