McKinley Chief, National Guard Bureau WASHINGTON -- Friday, May 8 is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. On this important occasion, we must ensure we tell our spouses how thankful we are for their enduring support and loyalty. It is they who nurture and sustain our families while we serve Nation and State. More than half a million National Guard troops have been mobilized since September 11, 2001. But hundreds of thousands of dedicated spouses have also made sacrifices for their country without leaving their homes. It is they who take care of our children, maintain our houses and attend to finances, thereby allowing us to perform our duty. They are indispensable, and they ask for very little in return.
