FSS Airmen practice vital job skills, prepare for Guam exercise Published Aug. 17, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Jordan Jones 162nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs TUCSON, Ariz. -- Members of the Force Support Squadron here conducted training on small shelter systems and temper tents Aug. 11 and 13 during an event called services home station training. The training, required annually, this time brings with it an understanding that most of these skills will be used - soon. "We have 11 people deploying to Guam on August 20," said Master Sgt. Michael Hawkins, food services manager. "They will be deployed for 10 days in support of exercise Vigilant Guard." "Services home station training helps us prepare for overseas assignments; the shelters and tents are used to establish a base and provide lodging and other temporary building needs," said Staff Sgt. Francisco Ralston, non-commissioned officer in charge of lodging. As a one-week training event, it provides Airmen with the skills to perform services operations in an overseas environment. "The training is an annual requirement; it covers mortuary affairs, lodging, field feeding, force bed down, appropriated and non-appropriated funds, search and recovery, and training on equipment such as forklifts and 1-ton trucks," Sergeant Hawkins said.
