A 13-member squad from the 162nd Security Forces Squadron here hit the road to Fort Bliss, Texas, today to participate in pre-deployment field training.

The Air Guardsmen from Tucson International Airport will join other security specialists for two weeks of instruction at the post's regional training center. They are not slated to deploy, but as alternates, they have been asked to be at the ready should they get the call.

"We're in our deployment window right now," said Master Sgt. Dion Hawkins, the squadron's deployment manager, "so we have to maintain all of our training, computer based training, and firing qualifications should we have to replace any of the other units that are going forward."

According to Airman 1st Class Jessica Switzer, the team will brush up on "land navigation, fire movements, and perhaps some convoy training, while eating MREs and just being outside most of the time."

"I love camping and being outside, so this works out well for me," Switzer said.

Fire team leader Tech. Sgt. Michael Carpenter led the following Airmen to Fort Bliss:

Tech. Sgt. Alvin Conde
Airman 1st Class Daniel Alvarez
Airman 1st Class Sammuel Alanis
Airman 1st Class Eric Mirabal
Senior Airman Steve Nunez
Staff Sgt. Gladys Rabago
Tech. Sgt. Freddy Rosales
Senior Airman Elliot Smith
Airman 1st Class Jessica Switzer
Airman 1st Class Kendrick Spears
Airman 1st Class Reuben Villegas
Senior Airman Mitchell Winegardner
