Do you believe in MAGIC?

TUCSON, Ariz. --  The 162nd Fighter Wing at the Tucson Air Guard base here held its third annual My Air Guard Incentive Career (MAGIC) event at nearby Davis-Monthan Air Force Base during the January Unit Training Assembly. MAGIC was developed to provide information about the benefits and opportunities for Tucson guardsmen and their families.

Topics discussed during the two-day briefing included information on Air Guard career development, continuing education, fitness, physical and mental health, and more. Several speakers presented information on resources such as the Airman and Family Readiness program, financial guidance and coping with stress.

"Early on in your careers we want you to understand that this is a challenging environment that you're in," said Col. Michael McGuire, 162nd Fighter Wing commander. "Just realize that you are also part of a great team," he said.

The word "team" was used extensively throughout the MAGIC weekend to impart on Airmen and their families that we are here to support each other, especially through difficult times.

"Know that you are never alone because we are a team and that is what's important," said Chief Master Sgt. Shane Clark, 162nd Fighter Wing Command Chief Master Sergeant. "When our Airmen need us the most, we are there for them," he said.

The MAGIC program has proven to be more successful than just a newcomer's briefing because it helps Airmen with their individual needs, said Chief Clark. The Air Guard plans on utilizing MAGIC in the future to help new Airmen and their families get a great start to military life in the Air Guard, he said.

"This is an opportunity for me to welcome you to the team. Thank you for your service," said Col. McGuire. "I look forward to seeing all of you continue to serve," he said.
