The 162nd Fighter Wing Chief's Council awarded three unit members here $500 each in the second year of honoring Guardsmen with academic scholarships.

Congratulations go out to the three individuals who were selected for their continued professional development through off-duty education. The awardees are Staff Sgt. Mark Gregory, aircraft mechanic at the Alert Detachment; Tech. Sgt. Ashley Crocker, aerospace medical service craftsman; and Staff Sgt. Kaleb Semler, knowledge operations specialist.

"This is a great opportunity because my husband is in school right now as well. This scholarship is a big help as it will defer some of the costs for my school books." said Sgt. Crocker. She is a junior majoring in Health Services Management at Arizona State University.

"This scholarship will make a huge difference in my life as a student. It means less time working and more time in the library studying. It's a breath of fresh air when you receive these, especially when you're trying to put two children through college the same time you're attending," said Sgt. Gregory, a Civil Engineering senior at the University of Arizona.

The Chief's Council scholarships are offered annually and are open to all current members of the 162nd Fighter Wing and the 214th Reconnaissance Group. Each applicant must be currently enrolled as a student. For additional questions, contact Chief Master Sgt. Brian Karas at 295-6307.
